A day of cleansing.

Western man (that’s most likely you) own to much stuff but not only that; we own to much stuff we don’t need and I’m not talking about having too many shirts or plates or cars, I’m talking about the stuff that stuff comes in: boxes.

I cleaned out my storage space today. Do you know how many boxes of things I no longer have, since I’ve thrown them away, I had? Me neither. There were some many. Insane! And guess how much broken stuff I had that I hadn’t come around to throw away or thought they weren’t broke enough to throw away or didn’t want to throw away despite them being broke. Insane! And here comes the really insane part: I threw all these things away so that Camila an I could fit even more stuff down there! Insane!

It really is excessive and almost repulsive how much one acquires. Do we really need all this stuff? I know some of you are rolling your eyes right now but seriously: Are you any happier?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to part with all that I own. I’m going to think a second time before I purchase something, I’m going to get what I want but not want as much and I’m never going to keep another box in my life!

List of some things that were thrown away today:

  • 28″ Broken colour television from 1980
  • 19″ Broken computer monitor
  • Computer motherboard from computing stone age
  • 8 legs for two tables (have no idea where the tops are)
  • A small, broken, electrical organ
  • A shower curtain rod
  • A roll down curtain
  • Two lamps
  • 5 small IKEA matts

And besides all this I filled up a dumpster with packing material and another one with cardboard…
